Help Protect the Wild Rogue
Take Action: Sign the petition to Protect the Wild Rogue
Over the last five years, we have been working with local businesses, conservationists, fishermen, rafters and community members to get permanent protection for a major section of the wild Rogue River canyon. A section that is currently unprotected and thus vulnerable to logging, mining and roadbuilding.
Nov. 2011, Reps. DeFazio, Schrader, and Blumenauer introduced a bill to expand the Wild Rogue Wilderness and extend Wild and Scenic Rivers protection to 93 miles of tributary streams in the wild Rogue River canyon (H.B. 3436). In December, Senators Wyden and Merkley introduced companion legislation (S. 2001).
On March 8, 2012, the House Natural Resources Subcommittee held a hearing on the house bill. On March 22, the Senate Subcommittee on Public Lands and Forests will also hold a hearing. One of our local champions, Dave Strahan, is traveling to Washington to testify before the Senate Subcommittee in support of the Rogue – thank you Dave!
